Need to sell that Exersaucer or buy a train table on the cheap? Chicago Area Moms Swap, launched two weeks ago by local mom Courtney Navarro, is a new Facebook group where parents can buy and sell baby and children’s merchandise.
It’s easy—just post a “wanted” ad if you are looking for something specific, or a “for sale” ad if you want to divest some baby equipment, and the group provides an audience of Chicagoland moms. You can either search posts or browse photos to see what’s for sale.
I like that the group is more targeted than Craigslist or ebay, and membership provides a more personal touch that keeps transactions civil. (Knowing names and Facebook photos makes buyers less likely to punk out or re-negotiate upon pickup, common Craigslist complaints.) Plus, you can save a lot of money by arranging swaps with other parents, trading merchandise your kid has outgrown (farewell, newborn clothes and Bumbo) for those he is just growing into (potty seats, tricycles.)
